Pipeline<\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b><i>Reduced out-of-school student suspensions in LAUSD by 91% since 2005 through our policy victories <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Despite persistent racial disparities, the policies we won generated a monumental decrease in student suspensions, from 72,668 at the end of 2005-06 to 6,226 at the end of 2016-17<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b><i>Started first-ever legal advocacy trainings for South LA parents whose children were unjustly removed from school through suspensions and involuntary transfers <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Held several know-your-rights trainings and legal clinics for parents concerned about the fairness of their children\u2019s suspensions, especially those in special education<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b><i>Launched first-ever community organizing campaign in LA to stop school \u201cpushout\u201d <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Collected nearly 50 stories of suspensions and over 120 surveys of youth who did not finish high school in our human rights documentation project, and held first-ever \u201cpeople\u2019s hearing\u201d on school discipline practices and pushout attended by 100 community members \u00a0(2005-06)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b><i>Won a new district-wide school discipline foundation policy &#8211; the first of its kind in the nation\u2019s second largest district &#8211; based on positive behavior support <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Influenced and secured Los Angeles Unified School District\u2019s (LAUSD\u2019s) adoption of the most progressive and comprehensive <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cadre-la.org\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/LAUSD-Discipline-Foundation-Policy-SWPBS-BUL-3638.0-March-2007.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">district-wide school discipline policy in the nation, based on positive behavior support<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(2007)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b><i>Created parent-led community monitoring model of LAUSD\u2019s policy implementation<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Piloted and sustained grassroots, community-led monitoring of LAUSD\u2019s School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Discipline Foundation Policy \u00a0(2008 \u2013 current), resulting in three participatory action research and \u201cshadow\u201d reports in 2010, 2012, and 2017 that highlight significant implementation gaps and persistent racial disparities in South LA <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b><i><\/i><\/b><b><i>Eliminated \u201cwillful defiance\u201d as a justifiable reason for student suspension <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Joined with the Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition to develop and support the adoption of the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.publiccounsel.org\/tools\/assets\/files\/2013-School-Climate-Bill-of-Rights-Policy-FINAL.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2013 School Discipline and School Climate Bill of Rights<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resolution by LAUSD \u00a0(2013) which eliminated this category, and joined with allies across California to pass AB420 (2014), placing a moratorium on willful defiance suspensions in grades K-3 from January 2015 through June 2018<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img Project<\/a> <\/span>of the federal Supportive School Discipline Initiative, a national multi-stakeholder effort to outline and recommend the best practices in transforming school discipline into
